| Personal Background |
| Tasia Gerhardt was born on Earth,
like billions of other human children. Unlike other children, she was
born telepathic. Although her parents did their best to shield her from
unsolicited attention, just being around other children's loud,
disjointed thoughts proved overwhelming for young Tasia. She begged for
and cherished the family's outdoor outings, where the wilderness
provided a small buffer between herself and the intrusive thoughts of
others outside her immediate family. Seeing that she was having such a
difficult time, her parents ultimately decided to move to Betazed so
that Tasia could receive help and training for her inhuman ability. Living on Betazed did help Tasia with her telepathy, in that she was trained to control and use her ability. But other aspects of her life there remained much as they had been on Earth. She still didn't really feel as though she belonged. That's why, as soon as she graduated from the Academy on Betazed, she applied to Starfleet Academy. She figured with the cultural diversity present on a starship, she might blend in rather than stand out. Finding a niche in which to belong in this universe has been a lifelong dream. Having graduated from both academies with top honors, she accepted her first post to the USS Griffin B, under the command of Capt. TJ Fortiscue, as ship's counsellor. While under the newly promoted Commodore Fortiscue's command, Tasia was called to use her telepathy to solve a mystery involving missing crew of the science vessel Ohm. Only vegetation and wildlife were discovered on the planet's surface below, but while on the Away Team, via the telepathy, Tasia sensed a whorl of human emotions emanating from the vegetation. The plants latched on to the away team, trying to deter us from stopping the charging elephant-like creature headed in our direction, and then attacked us when the elephant was felled. Spores covered the away team, that the CMO determined would eventually transform anyone touched by them into the same vegetation. Once cleaned up and cured of any spores and residual effects, Tasia's thoughts were contacted by a supreme intelligence, saying ominously and without remorse "LEAVE MY HOME!" The then Lt. Colonel James Archer came up with a plan to link telepathically with Counsellor Gerhardt in an attempt to rid an abandoned space station of an AI with an ego, a dark attitude, and sinister intentions. The plan succeeded, at the cost of Tasia requiring the use of a telepathic inhibitor for a time following the attempt. While under the command of Captain T'Lon O'Faolan, the Griffin sought to rid the area of a band of pirates that had reportedly been seizing random Starfleet and other vessels in the quadrant. Pirates were apprehended from the SS Korima, who upon questioning informed Griffin security that they were a small part of a much larger organized operation. When this was reported to SFC, immediately, the Griffin and her newly christened flotilla, 'the Talon' were sent out to investigate and stop the piracy. In the course of that mission, Tasia was abducted from the bridge by pirates and taken to a Dominion Force installation, where she endured physical, mental and emotional violence until the Griffin and her marines arrived weeks later to extricate her and destroy the installation. After the debrief with Commodore Ruari, Counsellor Gerhardt was recommended to counselling, and Capt. O'Faolan allowed her to retain her duties, as long as she felt up to the tasks. Tasia agreed, and continues to seek therapy whenever possible for that life altering experience in the installation. |
